South Carolina Botanical Garden has so many different options when it comes to doing photos. If you want to find something different, you just keep walking. You may find bridges, fields, flowers, benches...etc. There is literally something for everyone here.

Victoria's Tip:

Go explore this location before your photos. It's a great place to take a walk and enjoy nature. Find the little spots that you love and we will go back and take your photos there!

Devils Fork State Park is one of those locations that gives you a little bit of everything. Located along the shores of the crystal-clear Lake Jocassee and surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, it has beautiful mountain scenery, peaceful wooded areas, and gorgeous lake views. The combination of the water and mountains makes it a beautiful choice for photos that feel natural, adventurous, and a little more elevated.

For the most beautiful light, I'd also plan around golden hour when possible.

Victoria's Tip:

If you're planning a session here, I'd recommend considering a weekday or less-busy time of day, especially during the warmer months. Devils Fork can get very busy on weekends and holidays, and the park warns that it may reach parking capacity during peak visitation.

Ram Cat Alley is located in the heart of historic downtown Seneca and offers a completely different look from a traditional outdoor photography session. The area features historic commercial buildings dating from roughly 1887-1930, along with boutiques, restaurants, public art, and a pedestrian-friendly atmosphere.

I love this type of location for clients who want their photos to feel a little more urban, editorial, fun, and personal. The historic buildings, alleyways, storefronts, and downtown details give us a lot of variety without needing a traditional nature setting.

Victoria's Tip:

For the best experience, I'd recommend planning a session during a quieter part of the day, especially if you want the area to feel more relaxed and have fewer people in the background. The atmosphere can become much busier during community events such as Jazz on the Alley, which takes place on Thursday evenings from April through October.

Sassafras Mountain is one of the most breathtaking locations in the Upstate, and at 3,553 feet, it is the highest point in South Carolina. The observation tower provides sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and, on a clear day, views stretching into South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.

The combination of the mountain views, open sky, and surrounding wilderness makes this location feel completely different from a traditional field or park session. It's especially beautiful around sunrise and sunset when the mountains are surrounded by warm, dramatic light.

Sassafras Mountain is a great choice for anyone who wants their photos to feel adventurous, romantic, and a little more dramatic. Couples can turn their session into a mountain adventure, while seniors can get a completely different look from the typical field or downtown session. It's also a beautiful option for maternity photos if you're looking for something more scenic and outdoorsy.

Victoria's Tip:

For the most beautiful light, I'd recommend planning your session around sunrise or sunset. The observation tower is accessible by a paved road and a short approach from the parking area, but the summit can be noticeably cooler and windier than areas at lower elevations, so bringing a light layer is always a good idea.

I'd always recommend checking the weather and visibility before heading up. Fog and low clouds can dramatically reduce the mountain views, while a clear day can give you those huge, sweeping views that make this location so special.

Lee Falls is one of those hidden gems in the Upstate that feels like a true adventure. Located on Tamassee Creek, the approximately 75-foot waterfall is surrounded by lush greenery, moss-covered rocks, and a beautiful natural setting. The secluded atmosphere gives photos a completely different feel from a traditional park or field session.

The journey to the falls is part of the experience. The route is about 1.5 miles each way and includes several creek crossings before becoming steeper and rockier near the waterfall. The fields and creeks on the way in are also great photo opportunities if you don't want to make the full hike.

Victoria's Tip:

This is not an easy, walk-up waterfall location, so I would only recommend it for clients who are comfortable hiking and navigating uneven terrain. There are multiple creek crossings, and the final portion can involve slippery rocks, boulders, and scrambling. Conditions can become more difficult after a heavy rain, so checking the weather and trail conditions before a session is especially important.

I'd also recommend sturdy footwear and clothes you don't mind getting wet or dirty. If you're planning a session here, I'd want to make sure everyone is comfortable with the hike before choosing this location.

Yellow Branch Falls is a beautiful waterfall tucked away in the Sumter National Forest in Walhalla. The trail winds through a peaceful hardwood forest with creeks, mossy rocks, and lush greenery before reaching an impressive waterfall at the end. The falls are approximately 50-60 feet tall and flow over a series of rocky ledges, creating a gorgeous and dramatic backdrop for photos.

What I love about this location is that the hike itself becomes part of the experience. Instead of simply arriving at a viewpoint, you get forest scenery, creek crossings, and plenty of opportunities for natural, candid photos along the way.

You also have the Stumhouse Tunnel in the same area. This is a unique spot as well.

Victoria's Tip:

This is a moderate hike, so I would recommend sturdy shoes with good traction and bringing water. The trial includes creek crossings, roots, uneven terrain, and sections near deeper ravines, so extra caution is important when conditions are wet.

The waterfall's flow can change quite a bit depending on rainfall. After a good rain the falls will be impressive, while during a dry spell the falls may be lighter.

Walhalla Depot is such a fun option if you're looking for photos with a little more history and character. The historic depot sits in downtown Walhalla at Depot Park, also known as Kaufmann Square, surrounded by green space, mature trees, and other historic buildings. The depot dates back to the railroad era that helped bring visitors and commerce to Walhalla, giving the area a unique old-town feel.

Victoria's Tip:

I'd recommend planning your session during a quieter part of the day if you want a more peaceful atmosphere. Since the Depot is part of a community park and event area, activity can vary depending on what's happening in downtown Walhalla.

Don't feel like you have to stay right beside the depot! Downtown Walhalla gives us plenty of opportunities to move around and incorporate different backgrounds, which can make your gallery feel much more varied.

High Falls County Park is a beautiful 46-acre park tucked into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains along the shores of Lake Keowee. The lake, sandy beach, greenery, and surrounding trees give us a lot of variety without having to travel far from Seneca. The park also has a historic house, picnic areas, and plenty of open space, making it possible to create a gallery with several different looks.

What I especially love about High Falls is how relaxed and natural it feels. The combination of water, shoreline, trees, and open areas make it a great choice for photos that feel candid and genuine rather than overly posed.

This is an especially great option for families because there is plenty of room for kids to move around an interact naturally. It's also beautiful for couples wanting a laid-back lakeside session or seniors looking for something more outdoorsy. The sandy shoreline and lake views can give your gallery a completely different feel from traditional field or downtown sessions.

Victoria's Tip:

I'd recommend planning your session around golden hour when possible. The lake and shoreline can look especially beautiful as the light gets softer toward sunset.

Keep in mind that High Falls is a popular recreation area with a beach, playground, boat ramps, fishing pier, and other amenities, so it can get busier at certain times. A weekday evening can be a great choice if you want a quieter session with fewer people around. The park's day-use gate currently opens at 7am and closes at dusk, according to Oconee County's visitor information.

Station Cove Falls is a beautiful stepped waterfall tucked into the Appalachian forest near Walhalla. The waterfall is approximately 60 feet tall, and the trail takes you through a lush cove forest filled with trees, moss, creek scenery, and seasonal wildflowers. The trail is considered an easy hike, making this a great way to get the waterfall-session look without committing to a difficult hike.

One of my favorite things about this location is that the trail itself gives us opportunities for photos before we even reach the falls. Between the forest, creek, greenery, and waterfall, we can create a gallery that feels adventurous and natural while still having plenty of variety.

Victoria's Tip:

This is one of those locations where I'd recommend having sturdy shoes and clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty or wet. Although the trial is considered easy, you'll still be walking through a natural forest environment and crossing a small creek area near the falls.

I'd also recommend a weekday session when possible, especially if we're trying to get more privacy. Parking at the closest trailhead is limited, so planning ahead is important. There's additional parking at Oconee Station State Historic Site if needed, although that adds some walking distance.

Chau Ram County Park is one of those locations that gives you a lot of variety in one place. The park sits where Ramsey Creek meets the Chauga River and features a beautiful 40-foot waterfall, wooded trails, river views, large boulders, and a 160-foot suspension bridge.

What I especially love about Chau Ram is that the waterfall is very accessible, while the surrounding trails give us opportunities to create more adventurous and natural photos. We can incorporate the river, forest, rocks, bridge, and waterfall to create a gallery that feels like an experience rather than just a traditional portrait session.

Victoria's Tip:

If you're wanting the waterfall in your photos, I'd recommend planning a weekday or quieter time of day whenever possible. Chau Ram is a popular park, and the waterfall, river, trails, and suspension bridge can attract quite a few visitors.

I'd also recommend wearing comfortable shoes with good traction if we plan to explore beyond the main waterfall area.

Don't forget about the suspension bridge! It can make for some really fun, candid photos and gives us another completely different look within the same session.
